Film review for INITIAL D taken from Today newspaper

The "D" stands for drifting - a trick which involves braking your vehicle suddenly, causing it to slide through the turns in a road.

For its exciting race sequences, stylish camerawork, and, well, little else really, Initial D is a film that hugely satisfies at the visceral level. It also shows Taiwan singing superstar Jay Chou can act well enough in a role which has him portraying ... himself, more or less.

Based on a best-selling Japanese comic book, the story centres on Takumi (Chou) the son of a beancurd seller (Anthony Wong).

Unknown to his friends, Takumi is a pretty good driver. In fact, he is to road racing as Matt Damon was to mathematics in Good Will Hunting: A savant who can, on his day, beat top professional racers, even when driving a car with less horsepower.

In filling the role of Takumi - a young man whose father, once a legendary driver, is now a drunk - the soft-spoken Chou is suitably shy and introverted. Despite his economy with words, he has a girlfriend (Anna Suzuki) who he's crazy about; one kiss from her, and he's left a grinning idiot.

The love angle doesn't figure much in the story - Suzuki unfortunately comes off as a wide-eyed bimbo - as is the dark secret she keeps from Takumi.

And, to be honest, the plot isn't particularly gripping. It largely revolves around the pretty squabbles between ego-fuelled drivers - played by Jordan Chan, Edison Chen and Shawn Yue - who all want to beat Takumi to claim the mantle of king of the mountain.

However, what the film lacks in substance, it makes up for in style and humour.

Chapman To, who plays Takumi's best friend, a man with sadly misplaced faith in his unimpressive driving skills, is the chief source of comic relief, though he comes close to wearing out his welcome with his silly antics.

Wong, always a reliable actor, is a sombre, tragic figure as the fater, a man with a black sense of humour. Takumi has him to thank for his astounding driving skills: He's forced by his father to deliver beancurd in the dead of the night, driving without a licence.

And the real appeal of the flick: For the most part, Initial D is a stunning display of stunt driving.

The technical crew and stuntmen deserve the plaudits for making Chou look incredibly cool as he drives around, looking bored as heck, head casually propped up by his arm.

If directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak had have made more of the love story - or simply cut it oit entirely, Initial D would have been much better, without those slow moments to haul in its adrenaline-pumping pace.

Review:

nice show... wif such a hunk acting as Mr Smith, of cos its nice... ok ok... storyline... funny... funny lines... and exciting fighting scenes... all sort of guns on... a mixture of romance, comedy and triller...

the story is abt a guy and a ger met each other under a very conincidence situation... without knowing each other well, they got married and the marriage din turn out well... as they hide things from each others, hode the fact tat actually both of them were professional killer... it happen tat one day, they were order to kill each other... and till den they know abt the true identity of each other... and so on...

worth watching, the mixture of 3 turn out to be nice... wif such hunk and chick acting, no excuse for not watching...

got the free tix for yunjing ger ger and went to watch wif mh... an ultimate show... a must watch... excitment of car racing show and hilarous characters in the show... jay chou first virgin movie... recommended for jay chou's fan and car lovers... sure tat everyone will enjoy the special technique done by the racer while making turns... and of cos having to see jay shed tears, which he will nv do tat in front of the public (such ego man)... and everyone, i mean everyone who act in that movie, the lead, jay, shawn, edison... and also Anthony Wong, Chapman To, ah B, jordan chan, etc... really act colour to the movie... a must watch...

highly recommended, a must watch... but for ur infor...the tix is selling damn bloody fast... pls rmb to book for the tix, if not u will either find urself siting in the first few rows or worse still, can't even get the tix... watch if u r still breath, no excuse for any chinese to miss the show!

My Shopping Bag

yesterday went o do my shopping... OMG~ can someone jus stop mi frm shopping... guess i really need someone to control mi huh... cos i can't seems to control my shopping desire... imagine earning $400 spending $600... OMG! take a look @ my shopping bag....


my new MD and earphone... sony mania??! many ppl been asking y do i go for a MD, y not a mp3?! haha... well, i hav a lot of mini disc u see... got the earphone @ $39, b4 my old MD player spoilt... got this sony MD @ $299, clearance sale... last piece, display set sia... lucky its working... but dun understand y sony hav to design such a stupid on-off button... retarded!

den went over to robinson raffles city yesterday... and tat's the place where all my money GONE!

bought some anna sui products... remind u of someone isn't it?! haha... maybe my poly fren will understand better...


bought anna sui's eyelash curler @ $18... ok~ tricia recommend mi shiseido one but so sorry, cos i jus love tat combination of black & purple... two of my fav colour! now den i realize, black and purple can really match well leh... kana get myself a purple colour nail polish! yeah~


can't resist myself frm buying this ultimate mascara, selling @ $39... anna sui got 3 type of mascara... one is lengthening, one is volume, den the other one is wat i bought one, curling effect... latest one... got a lot of feedback frm fren tat anna sui mascara is gd... and of cos i saw it wif my own eyes, tat make it so unresistable to mi... and one thing, i only buy black mascara and no other colour... cos black will make one's eyes look bigger... haha... make up tricks?!

in order to be allegible for that free cleasning oil, i hav to purchase a total of $60 and above... and both the item add tog is $57... so try to look for something to add on... and bought the pointed comb... nice and small... the design is nice... 15 bucks gone...


and here my free cleasning oil... 50ml... nice bottle huh... its selling as 200ml @ $40... shit sia... should hav forgo my tat stupid maybeline one and use anna sui one in stead... cos maybeline is not as recognice as anna sui and yet i pay ard $10 for a 70ml make up remover... change change...

went over to shiseido counter as dear tricia mention tat shiseido concealer is great...

and here it is... shiseido concealer... recommended by the sale assistance... cos u noe my dark eye circle is so ultimate tat not normal concealer can cover... but jus wanna gif it a try... bought it @ $38... aim tat eye gel and eye mask... one @ $70++, and the other @$60++... nah... i din buy lah... jus aim only...

oh ya... b4 i went to raffles city... i walk into time club and guess wat i saw... that black colour strap fossil watch... and of cos... u noe me well...

sometimes i dun understand wat so gd abt being attached... maybe jus a shoulder to lean on, or a shield to block u frm all watever comes ur way... or maybe jus not independent enough... anyway, for the time being, at my age, i dun really see a needs in relationship lah.. i mean for mi lah... for others i dun care and i dun noe... anyway... i dun need relationship to keep mi company... gng out wif who, where, no one restrict... being in an relationship is of too much commitment... no offends to those who are attach... but come on lah, some do admit tat wat i say is true... afterall, its not a shame to admit tat u r not independent enough wat! pros & cons lah i shall say...

Wat A Busy Week

a lot, jus alot of things to say...

first: computer crashed!

OMG~! sad to announce, my com crash sia! alamak! again no backup no nth... now left wif 0MB of data... hard disk crash, everything gone... hai~ sad sad~ but lucky it crash b4 i went KL sia... at least i won't lost my dear photos~ anyway, change the hard disk and burner... but com still unstable... according to that free-lance IT tech, mother board is faulty too... gonna change it as well, it will cost mi 300 bucks! wow! but no choice... wan a gd, as in perfectly normal working condition computer, i hav to chip in some money... gonna get it done asap, by end of this week... den can upload all my stuffs...

second: I'm a CPG AMEC staff!

had sign the empolyment letter, got a perm job @ sing post, under CPG AMEC. the current comp tat i working part time rite now, but diff division... a lot of story behind... anyway, not a well pay job... but at least its a job afterall... will be starting work on the 1st july, meaning leaving the group end of this mth... many of them asking mi why not here but sing post, ya~ i too wanna work here but ppl here @ front office are too... hmmm... not gd... politics stuffs lah... even that HR officer told mi tat... i think i was rather lucky, he recognise mi... as in i din really go for any interviews, only once from the management of the current division i working in and another one is by that sing post manager who interviewed mi through telly and jus ask mi wat i do here and tat's it. neither did i send in hundreds of resumes to many comp, i only send 2... one to CPG Amec and another one to CPG fm... and sad to say tat some staff here are not happy abt the offering of job frm this HR officer to mi, they even complain to the higher management... they do this out of? jealousy? not happy y he help mi so much, wan mi to join the comp... or jus wan mi to stick in PGPR? u noe... its like 2 sons fighting over the money left by the dead father... a very complicated story lah anyway... news spread real fast, once i signed the employment letter, ppl start asking mi abt it, and even noe where i'm gng, wat comp i joining and stuffs... scary! maintenance side noe it first as everything go through there den to mi, so its pretty normal but i dun understand y news @ front office spread so fast... scary! ppl been smiling to mi but dun noe wat they thinking deep inside, scary! human beings... hai~

Third: KL TRIP POWER!

sorry to say this huh, this KL trip is so much better than the previous one.... of cos not refering to xiao mun and wilson lah... but the trip is really better... maybe becos they noe the place well... its always gd to go to new places wif older ppl... haha... so bad of mi huh... but really enjoy, since the first day till the last day... really make mi not wanting to come home sia... will go into detail at a later time wif all the pics...

4th: i'm a auntie liao...

my elder cousin jus had a baby girl... and ya~ i officially annouce tat i'm not longer the youngest of seah family liao! and here our little baby... i become an auntie liao lor... old liao... got to go and visit my little niece this sun and try to take a pic of hers... hehe...

5th: MD player DOWN!

sway sway sway, my dearest MD is down... guess something to do wif the len, it can't read the mini disc... sad... kana get a new one... not a mp3 but still a MD... cos i hav so many mini disc, jus dun wanna waste... and MD, i can keep some of the songs for future use and can label diff MD, chinese song in 1, hip hop in the other and so on... any lobang anyone...?

6th: sim lim/mustafa wif abangs

went sim lim on monday wif my abangs... ah koon and raffeeh... went to buy some things for the guys... since raffeeh dun hav to fetch his son and wan to go mustafa to buy some stuffs... fendy joined us at a later time, he took leave tat day... cool huh... get to rest for one day after the trip... poor mi was fucking tired sia~! den went to the restaurant @ little india... yum... go into detail wif more pic @ a later time...

XIAO MUN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

haha... monday went to celebrate xiao mun's birthday... hey mun, update blog leh... haha... took a no. of pics, but not yet upload lah... had play a trick on little mun, newspaper wrapping... haha... hav dinner at taka seoul garden wif of cos the main lead lah, mun, tim and mun's frens... haha... and they hav come wif a new dish... hmmm... forgot the name of the dish liao, anyway.... its nice! nice to see but dun ever taste it... haha... promise to come out wif a more detailed posting on xiao mun's birthday after i'm back frm KL....

went out for lunch wif hairil in the afternoon... hehe... at dun noe where lah, queensway area lah... go there by his bike, after so long of pestering, finally he gave mi a ride, although not giving mi a ride home lah, but better den nth lah... went to ur industrial park, with plenty of motor bike shop sia... accompany him to pay his installment... den went to hav lunch den back to workplace agn... Thanks to hairil for giving mi a ride to the mrt station... hehe... *wink*

had a great chat wif my sis... realized something... maybe i'm born lucky to hav a close sister... having to share the room wif my sis seems to be a bad thing last time, but not anymore now... we get closer now, as in our relationship. we share our tots, wat happen everyday, telling each other things tat we dun wish others to noe... and find tat we r somehow alike as in character wise, the way we handle some situation and stuffs... we both think that its our mum who pass down this kind of similar character to us... haha... chat till 1am lor~ OMG! we can really tok huh... haha... we seldom hav agruement like wat we had last time, maybe cos we had grew up, and learn to cherish the relationship tat is arranged by fate... cool huh... haha... cherish ur family, especially ur siblings...

a very tired day, guess its becos of the late nite tok wif my sis the nite b4... or maybe the task assigned to mi... got quite alot of things for mi, bz sia...
bought a billabong bag... a huge bag, dun noe why it jus attract mi like magnet sia... $49.90... OMG! can someone stop mi frm shopping and wasting money!!! a very big bag... good for gng oversea... haha... gd for gng beach too, chalet, ton nite... its jus big and sporty... better den my tat nike bag (too small) and my tat dirty green backpack (can get out of shape easily when store too many things)... but actually $49.90 dun really tat ex wat... those haversack cos ard $79.90 leh! this one is a lot bigger and cost lesser.... anyway, will be bringing it along to KL, big enough to throw all my stuffs in without having the worry of it getting out of shape... good good... but seems like its too big, haha... difficult to keep sia... haha... nvm... will be uploading the pic as well...
